Auteur, compositeur, guitariste et chanteur, Jason Mraz est né le 23 juin 1977 en Virginie. Il commence à jouer de la guitare à 18 ans lors de ses études à New York à la American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

En 1999, il décide, après être retourné en Virginie pour y travailler quelque temps, de se consacrer entièrement à la musique. Pour réaliser son rêve il part s'installer à San Diego réputée pour sa scène de nouveaux talents. Il va y rencontrer Toca « Joel » Rivera, percussionniste et son frère Carlos Olmeda, guitariste, Jason jouera pendant deux ans (2001-2002) avec eux. A cette époque il autoproduira quelques EP et un album Live at Java Joe's.

Début 2002 Elektra Records lui propose son premier contrat. Jason décide alors de retourner en Virginie pour écrire et enregistrer son premier album qu'il nommera Waiting For My Rocket To Come, John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band...) lui servira de producteur. The Remedy, chanson écrite pour un ami atteint du cancer, est choisi pour être le premier single et devient vite un hit aux États-Unis et au Japon. Jason part pendant un an (2003) en tournée et agrandira à chaque concert son public. A l'issu de cette série de shows, Dave Matthews lui propose de jouer en première partie de ses concerts.

En 2004, Jason sort son premier DVD live Tonight not again enregistré le 23 octobre 2003 à Milwaukee. Il profite également de cette année pour écrire et composer son nouvel album que Steve Lillywhite (U2, Dave Matthews Band,...), rencontré cet été là, produira. Son second album Mr.A-Z sort le 26 juillet 2005 et Jason Mraz repart en tournée (USA, Japon, Angleterre, Philippines). Il fera notamment les premières parties d'Alanis Morissette, des Rolling Stones et de James Blunt en Angleterre en 2006.

En 2008, son troisième album, We sing, We dance, We steal things, sort et bénéficie d'une sortie en France (le 29 septembre). Jason viendra d'ailleurs le 24 septembre à Paris pour un concert exceptionnel à la cigale.
